Japanese Design

The book, “Japanese Design: A Collection,” was gestated from 1995 through 1998, and published in 1999. It evolved from an ongoing collection of images of Japanese motifs, begun in 1981 during my first days in Japan. The impetus to create a book came from Weatherhill, in New York. The book is hardcover, 160 pages, and also appears under the imprint of Tuttle Shokai, Tokyo.

I would like to thank my old friend and Japanese antiques guru, Shinzaburo Shibuya, for the loan of some artifacts included in the book, as well as his vast knowledge.

Shown here is the cover, plus 23 sample spreads from Japanese Design. On a phone, it's best to rotate it to view these images horizontally.
